Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders threw up by Rod Stewart’s Ferrari

Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders once narrowly avoided vomiting on Rod Stewart’s prized Ferrari.
The British rock band, fronted by Alex Turner, rose to fame in their teens, and by their early 20s they were already major stars in their homeland and looking to break America.
In a new interview with MOJO magazine, Matt, 31, reveals that he was sick outside the rock legend’s California mansion while out celebrating his 21st birthday.
“One thing led to another and I was in a scenario where I threw up next to Rod Stewart’s Ferrari outside his house in Beverly Hills,” he explains. “I remember thinking this is disgusting, this is terrible… I can’t wait to tell everybody!”
Confessing that the band’s youthful rock and roll excesses didn’t last, Matt shares: “We’ve always said that as soon as any of it starts feeling normal then you’re done. That’s when someone needs to step in.”
He says that what ultimately stopped him going off the rails like so many rockers is the “massive regret” he feels after losing control on a night out.
Matt’s bandmate Nick O’Malley adds that while he’s often felt strange around stars, it’s never gone to his head.
“It’s them (sic) moments when Shirley Bassey’s got her arm around you, and Paul McCartney’s over there,” he recalls. “You feel like you’re in a film, in a story. But I never felt like I was losing it because I never felt a part of it. I felt more like… an observer.”
The Arctic Monkeys long-awaited sixth studio album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, is out next month (May18).
