Aretha Franklin’s son wants estate representative removed

One of Aretha Franklin’s sons has filed court papers seeking the removal of his late mother’s estate representative amid allegations of mismanagement.
Kecalf Franklin, whose father is Aretha’s old road manager Ken Cunningham, claims Sabrina Owens has failed to properly carry out her duties regarding the singer’s affairs, such as providing her four children with an accounting or inventory of her property and assets.
He wants the judge overseeing the case to fire Owens and appoint him as the successor, so he can manage all aspects of his mum’s business, according to paperwork obtained by The Blast.
However, Owens is challenging Kecalf’s motion, insisting she has been on top of everything required of her, blaming the heirs for delaying plans for an inventory of Aretha’s belongings, including jewellery, awards, and masters.
She is requesting the judge deny Kecalf’s estate bid, and allow her to keep the job.
A ruling has yet to be made.
Franklin died last August (18) at the age of 76, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
At the time of the Respect legend’s death, her lawyers and family members revealed she had died without a will, although three handwritten documents were subsequently found around her Detroit, Michigan home, with the most recent document dated March, 2014.
Her heirs have reportedly failed to agree on the validity of the wills.
