Belle and Sebastian leave drummer behind on rest stop

Scottish band Belle And Sebastian left their drummer Richard Colburn behind at a rest stop in North Dakota on Monday (14Aug17).
The group were en route to their show in St. Paul, Minnesota when they realised they had left Colburn behind.
Frontman Stuart Murdoch turned to social media, sending a tweet out for help to pick up the stranded musician.
“S**t, we left Richard in North Dakota,” he tweeted. “Anyone want to be a hero and get him to St Paul, Minnesota somehow. The gig hangs in the balance.”
In an interview with music website The Current, Murdoch explained that Colburn, who was left at the rest stop without his phone or identification, took refuge in a Walmart store for four hours before he eventually managed to check into a hotel for the night.
“He had a credit card, but he still sat in Walmart for four hours, but the thing is, he was probably thinking that we were – somebody was going to notice, but the trouble is everybody went to bed,” he said.
“I mean, there used to be a system. There used to be a system, but because we all have mobile phones these days, everybody’s got a little bit blasé about it… So Richard didn’t have his phone with him, and we were all talking about all the different things he could’ve done, but he checked into a hotel and went to sleep!”
The next morning, Ellen Shafer, a publicist in Fargo, found a volunteer to drive the lost drummer to the airport, according to the Pioneer Press.
In a later tweet Murdoch thanked fans them for their help, and assured them the show would go on.
“Thanks for your help folks. We have Richard on a plane now, so everything is ok. He’s in his pyjamas, sitting with a mimosa,” he tweeted.
Belle and Sebastian are currently on tour in north America through August with a handful of dates in the Netherlands in September.
