Bill Cosby fighting to appeal sexual assault conviction once again

Jailed comedian Bill Cosby has filed another appeal of his sexual assault conviction, arguing five of his accusers should not have been permitted to testify during his second trial.
The embattled comic is currently serving a three-to-10-year prison sentence for allegedly drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004, and during his second trial last year (18), actresses Louisa Moritz and Angela Leslie and five other women also accused him of sexual misconduct.
On Tuesday (25Jun19), Cosby’s lawyers filed court documents in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, claiming his “conviction was not based on any credible evidence that he actually committed the crimes for which he was on trial”.
They have also taken issue with accounts from five of his alleged victims, who testified Cosby plied them with pills before assaulting them, calling the accounts “inflammatory evidence with no probative value to the actual crimes charged”.
“The evidence was used to strip Cosby of his presumption of innocence and to try to establish that Cosby had the propensity to sexually assault women,” the documents read. “This evidence never should have been admitted at trial.”
Cosby’s spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, believes the appeal is “an important step in ensuring that Mr. Cosby receives a hearing from a fair and impartial court”.
The star filed an appeal to a lower court in December (18).
