Country star Billy Currington has lost a singing gig at an upcoming NASCAR race after he was indicted on felony charges stemming from an alleged bust-up with an elderly man. The singer will be replaced by Josh Turner as the pre-race act at the Charlotte Motor Speedway All-Star race in North Carolina on 18 May (13). The Charlotte Motor Speedway President Marcus Smith says, “Due to Currington’s recent indictment, we elected to change our act for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.”
Currington is facing allegations of making terroristic threats and abusing an elderly person following an altercation with a 70-year-old tour boat captain in Georgia on 15 April (13). He surrendered to police in Chatham County, Georgia, on Thursday (25Apr13) and was released from jail after posting a $27,700 (£17,300) bond.
