Actress Blanca Blanco and model Barbara Meier were among the women who opted to wear color at Sunday night’s (07Jan18) Golden Globe Awards.
While nearly all of the actresses walking the red carpet in Beverly Hills at 75th annual prize-giving ceremony, including award winners Nicole Kidman, Saoirse Ronan and Allison Janney, chose to wear black in support of Hollywood’s newly-established anti-sexual harassment movement, Time’s Up, there were a few exceptions.
Fake News actress Blanca decided red was best for the big night, and donned a one-sleeved red velvet dress which featured a thigh high split and cut out detailing across the chest.
German fashion star Barbara, who Heidi Klum crowned the winner of Germany’s Next Top Model in 2007, also shunned the unofficial black dress code, and chose a pretty floral gown.
Taking to her Instagram account to explain her decision, the flame-haired model told her followers: “A lot of women will wear black tonight to support the time‘s up movement! I think this is a great and extremely important initiative!

“Nevertheless I decided to wear a colorful dress tonight. If we want this to be the Golden globes of the strong women who stand up for their rights, I think, it’s the wrong way not to wear any sexy clothes anymore or let people take away our joy of showing our personality through fashion.”
She added that women have fought for a long time for the freedom to wear what they want, and if this now gets restricted “because some men can’t control themselves, this is a huge step back”.
“We should not have to wear black to be taken serious. US women should shine, be colorful and sparkle. Just like it is our nature. In my opinion this symbolizes our freedom and our new strength,” she continued.
“But to make clear: A lot of bad things happened and should never happen again!!!”
Meher Tatna, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, went for a colorful creation as well, though A-listers like Meryl Streep, Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain made a stand and selected black gowns.
