Brooklyn is an early BAFTA winner

Romantic drama Brooklyn has been named the first winner of the 2016 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
The movie, about an Irish immigrant resettling in New York, took home the golden BAFTA mask for Outstanding British Film on Sunday night (14Feb16), beating off competition from 45 Years, The Danish Girl, Ex Machina, The Lobster and documentary Amy.
The film is also nominated for awards including Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan, Supporting Actress for Julie Walters, and Adapted Screenplay for author Nick Hornby.
The show kicked off with a comedy Kiss-Cam segment which featured stars including Dame Maggie Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio, Bryan Cranston and Julianne Moore, and Eddie Izzard and Rebel Wilson locking lips for the camera.
Bridge of Spies and Carol lead the nominations with nine each, closely followed by Golden Globe-winning movie The Revenant with eight.
The ceremony is being presented by long-running host Stephen Fry at London’s Royal Opera House.
