Chief Keef heading to trial in South Dakota drug case

Embattled rapper Chief Keef is heading to trial after pleading not guilty to drug possession charges following a recent arrest in South Dakota.
The I Don’t Like star, real name Keith Cozart, was detained in Sioux Falls in June (17) after he allegedly tried to board a plane with four marijuana cigarettes and edibles in his backpack.
The 22-year-old, who lives in Los Angeles, denied the charges during an arraignment hearing, and was released on $2,000 (£1,480) bond.
Cozart returned to Sioux Falls last week (ends15Sep17) to officially protest his innocence regarding felony and misdemeanour charges for possessing marijuana, a marijuana edible, and drug paraphernalia, reports the local Argus Leader paper.
The case is now due to go to trial, which is scheduled to begin on 27 November (17).
Cozart faces a $10,000 (£7,400) fine and up to five years behind bars if convicted of the felony drug count.
It’s the hip-hop star’s latest legal trouble in a long line of incidents.
He previously had a warrant issued for his arrest in May (17), when he failed to show up for an arraignment hearing in Miami, Florida to face counts relating to his April (17) bust for driving under the influence (DUI) and drug possession.
The April (17) arrest marked his second DUI in three years. He was also declared a fugitive in August, 2014, after failing to attend a hearing in his native Chicago, Illinois for the same charge. His arrest in that incident took place in March, 2014, just days after he completed a court-ordered stint in rehab to deal with his marijuana habit.
