Clive Owen’s M. Butterfly set to close this weekend

The producers of actor Clive Owen’s Broadway revival of M. Butterfly have brought forward the show’s closing date due to poor ticket sales.
The Children of Men star recently returned to the New York stage to portray Rene Gallimard in David Henry Hwang’s story of a French diplomat’s 20-year affair with a star of the Chinese Opera, who turns out to be a male spy.
The limited production, directed by Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’s Julie Taymor, was met with mixed reviews upon its launch in October (17), and last month (Nov17), show bosses announced they would bring the curtain down on M. Butterfly on 14 January (18), six weeks earlier than scheduled, as a result of dwindling box office sales.
Officials have since decided to bump up the closing performance by another month, with Clive now taking his final bow as Gallimard on Sunday (17Dec17), reports Deadline.com.
The British actor last appeared on the Broadway stage in a 2015 revival of Harold Pinter’s Old Times.
