Cruise, Kidman end things with a hug

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have finally ended their 10-year marriage–but they did it with one last hug.

According to an article in the Dec. 3 issue of People magazine, the final meeting, which took place on Nov. 12 in Los Angeles, was a very subdued but amicable one for the two superstars. Arriving separately at about 5 p.m. on a particularly rainy day, Sorrell Trope, Kidman‘s laywer, said the two were “interacting very well.”

Three hours later, Cruise and Kidman signed the final papers and then parted with a warm embrace.

“We are great friends,” Cruise said. “She is someone who I love and always will.”

“Nicole is relieved that everything is finally over,” a friend told the magazine, “and that she and Tom will have some kind of amicable relationship.”

Once one of Hollywood’s hottest and most powerful couples, the two shocked the world when they announced their separation in February. Cruise filed for divorce soon after, citing irreconcilable differences.

Even though the divorce was final in August, the details for the custody of their children, Isabella, 8, and Connor, 6, still needed to be ironed out, as did dividing their $350 million fortune.

Kidman is said to be getting the $4.3 million mansion in Pacific Palisades and a house in Syndey, Australia, while Cruise will retain the $10.5 million estate in Telluride, Colo., and his three planes.

Trope told People, “Everyone was very happy. The olive branch was extended by both sides and each reached for it.”
