Danny Carey performs with staph infection

Tool drummer Danny Carey is playing through the pain of a “serious” staph infection.
The rockers kicked off their latest tour at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California, on Saturday (22Oct16), but guitarist Adam Jones has since revealed Carey was playing against the advice of doctors, who had diagnosed his illness just hours before the gig.
Jones shared the dramatic turn of events in a post on Instagram after the concert, admitting their set was almost axed.
“I truly have to respect Mr. Danny Carey who played the entire show with a very serious Staph Infection,” Jones explained. “At first on Friday morning, he was misdiagnosed with a poisonous spider bite on his upper leg. Then later Friday night the quarter sized wound was cut opened & drained.
“By Saturday he (Carey) was still aching from head to toe & from what I heard the Local Doctor recommended we skip the show. But Dan with headaches & painful joints played anyway (sic).”
Tool continued their run of shows on Monday (24Oct16) in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the band has three more dates in Colorado, Arizona, and Louisiana set for later this week (ends28Oct16).
