Domhnall Gleeson and Colin Farrell land top IFTA nominations

Domhnall Gleeson and Colin Farrell have scored two acting nominations each for the upcoming Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs).
The Harry Potter star will go head-to-head with Colin for the Actor in a Lead Role trophy for their roles in Ex Machina and The Lobster respectively, while Domhnall lands another nod for his supporting role in Brooklyn and Colin is feted for his turn in TV series True Detective.
They will compete against Michael Fassbender for the Actor in a Lead Role prize for his portrayal of Apple boss Steve Jobs, and Domhnall goes up against Jack Reynor for Sing Street in the supporting category.
His Brooklyn co-star Saoirse Ronan heads the Actress in a Lead Role nominees, and she is in competition with Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch for My Name is Emily plus other Irish stars.
Brooklyn is up for best film against Room, Sing Street, My Name is Emily, Viva and The Survivalist, while two of Domhnall’s other movies The Revenant and Ex Machina are nominated for the International Film accolade. They are up against the Oscar-winning Spotlight and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio lands another nod for The Revenant, and will go up against Matt Damon (The Martian), Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo) for International Actor.
The actress equivalent will be a race between Brie Larson (Room), Cate Blanchett (Carol), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) and Rachel Griffith (Mammal).
To scoop his TV acting prize, Colin will have to beat Aidan Turner for Poldark and Stephen Rea for Dickensian. Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, Vikings, An Klondike, and Rebellion, which stars Domhnall’s brother Brian, are named in the Drama category.
The winners will be revealed at Mansion House in Dublin, Ireland on 9 April (16).
