Duran Duran facing opposition for Miami Open gig

Duran Duran are facing the prospect of having to cancel a planned park concert in Miami, Florida in April (16) due to strict government rules.
The British pop veterans have been booked by Miami Open tennis officials to perform an after-match show at Crandon Park as part of the event’s festivities, but local authorities have taken issue with the gig as attendees are required to have a separate, stand-alone ticket.
County officials claim the show violates park rules, which limits commercial activity to just the Miami Open.
A letter sent by Parks chief Jack Kardys to Miami Open organisers reads: “The County has been made aware that your firm, International Players Championship (IPC), intends to host a concert on April 1, 2016, featuring Duran Duran.
“Accordingly, as it is currently envisioned, IPC may not use the Crandon Park Tennis Center for the Duran Duran concert.”
However, Kardys has made it clear he is willing to work with IPC executives to find a solution to the situation.
Tickets for the Rio hitmakers’ show have already gone on sale, with Miami Open director Adam Barrett insisting the concert is “part of the tournament experience”, reports the Miami Herald.
Hall & Oates, and Blood, Sweat and Tears have played post-show gigs for the Miami Open in previous years.
