Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) hits one billion streams

The tracks on Ed Sheeran’s best-selling ÷ (Divide) album have collectively been streamed over a billion times.
The singer’s latest offering, which includes hit tunes such as Shape of You, Castle on the Hill and Perfect, was released to much acclaim in March (17) and has since stormed its way up the charts worldwide.
And now Ed can add another string to his bow, thanks to figures released by Nielsen Music which show the songs on ÷ (Divide) have now collectively earned more than one billion on-demand audio streams in the U.S. alone.
In total, the songs on his album had racked up a whopping 1.02 billion streams by 13 July and, thanks to fans continually listening to the tracks, the record has been pushed over the one billion threshold. It also saw a staggering 24 million streams in just one week.
This isn’t the only time one of the Grammy Award winning artist’s albums has had major success. The tracks on Ed’s x (Multiply), have had over 1.51 billion streams since the album’s release in 2014. Both records debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S., as well as on the U.K. music charts.
In fact, the 26-year-old dominated the charts in his native U.K. to such an extent that bosses at the Official Charts Company recently announced they were changing rules to only allow artists three songs in the top 100 of the rundown.
In the U.K., ÷ (Divide) spent 14 weeks at the top of the charts and x (Multiply) was similarly as popular with 13 weeks in the top spot.
Ed is currently on his ÷ (Divide) Tour to support the release of the album. It officially begin in Turin, Italy, in March, and will see the singer play dates in Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America and Australia.
