Emile Hirsch joins Robert De Niro comedy

Emile Hirsch is the latest star to join Robert De Niro’s action comedy The Comeback Trail.
The film is a remake of the 1980s flick of the same name, which centres on two movie producers who owe money to a mob boss – so they cast a washed up cowboy and actor to star in their poorly written Western, with the intention of killing him during filming so they can collect the insurance money and pay their debt.
De Niro plays one of the beleaguered film producers, with Morgan Freeman as the mob boss, and Tommy Lee Jones playing down-on-his-luck cowboy Duke Montana.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hirsch will play James Moore, a successful Hollywood producer who De Niro’s character aspires to be.
James Marsden was originally slated to play Moore, according to IMDB, and it is unknown why the actor dropped out of the project.
The Comeback Trail, written and directed by George Gallo, also stars Zach Braff.
Hirsch, who also starred in Sean Penn’s Oscar nominated Into the Wild back in 2007, will next be seen on the big screen in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where he plays Jay Sebring, a celebrity hairstylist who was murdered by the Manson Family alongside his friend Sharon Tate in 1969.
