Emma Thompson teaming with Mindy Kaling for talk show comedy

Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling are to co-star in a movie about a TV talk show host.
The as-yet-untitled film has a script by Kaling, who will also produce alongside Scott Rudin.
According to Variety, the plot finds Thompson, 57, as a veteran broadcaster in danger of losing her long-running series after she hires her first female writer, played by 37-year-old Kaling.
Sources told the film publication that the narrative will be a cross between 1987’s Broadcast News and 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada.
Though there’s no studio attached to the project as yet, with two respected talents involved, a bidding war is already heating up with several interested parties in the mix.
And it appears Kaling has a long-held respect for Thompson, as in an E! News interview conducted in 2014 with Reese Witherspoon, the comedian professed her fondness for the Academy Award winner by comparing Witherspoon to the British star.
“Something about you reminds me of Emma Thompson,” she said. “She always plays intelligent characters.”
It’s a busy time for Kaling, whose TV comedy, The Mindy Project, is about to start its fifth season.
She’s also attached to the female movie reboot of Ocean’s Eleven and has a role in the upcoming A Wrinkle In Time, to be directed by Ava DuVernay.
While Thompson’s latest project, Bridget Jones’s Baby, which she co-wrote and also performs in as an obstetrician, is currently topping global box office charts. Next up, she’s set to voice teapot Mrs. Potts in the new live-action remake of Beauty and The Beast, which is due to hit theatres in March next year (17).
