Filmmaking brothers tapped for Masters of the Universe

The movie adaptation of Masters Of The Universe has reportedly landed new directors in siblings Aaron and Adam Nee.
Sources tell TheWrap.com the brothers have been recruited to take charge of the Sony Pictures film, a live-action reboot of the Mattel franchise, which began as a toy line and was turned into a cult 1980s He-Man cartoon series.
It spawned a big screen adaptation in 1987, when Dolph Lundgren starred as muscle-bound Adam, Prince of Eternia, aka He-Man, opposite Frank Langella as villain Skeletor.
Sony and Mattel executives have been developing the new film project for some time, but they have suffered a number of setbacks of late, with Charlie’s Angels filmmaker McG walking away as director last year (17).
The Dark Knight Trilogy screenwriter David S. Goyer was said to be in talks to take over the movie in December (17), after penning the most recent draft of the script, but now the Nee brothers have stepped into the frame.
They are best known for their 2006 movie The Last Romantic.
Casting details have yet to be revealed, but Twilight star Kellan Lutz was last linked to the role of He-Man in 2016.
Masters of the Universe is currently scheduled for release in December, 2019.
