Girlfriend’s tough love saved Liam Gallagher from downward spiral

British rocker Liam Gallagher has credited his girlfriend with saving him from hitting rock bottom after an “emotional” few years.
The Wonderwall star, whose infamous fall out with his brother and bandmate Noel led to Oasis’ split in 2009, has been dealing with a number of personal issues of late after splitting from his Nicole Appleton in 2013, after it was revealed he had fathered a love child with U.S. journalist Liza Ghorbani.
He subsequently became embroiled in a child support battle with Ghorbani, while his post-Oasis group, Beady Eye, disbanded in 2014.
Now, in a candid new interview with Q magazine, Liam admits his life was in a downward spiral when he became romantically involved with Debbie Gwyther, who he began dating shortly after his marriage breakdown.
The 45-year-old confesses the drama surrounding his personal and professional lives made the last few years an “emotional”, “eye-opening” and “mind-bending” time, which could have led him down a different path had it not been for Debbie’s tough love.
“Debbie saved me. No bulls**t,” he tells the magazine. “Debbie swooped me up as I was falling, she just said, ‘Stop being a d**khead.'”
Gwyther, a former personal assistant, also helped to show the reclusive Manchester, England native the delights of his adopted London, after spending years just sticking to the area around his neighbourhood in Hampstead, where he had lived with Appleton and their son Gene.
He continues, “She got me out of the house, introduced me to all kinds of people outside my world, got me doing new things. I’ve lived in London a long time, but I only really knew Hampstead. She took me to new places.”
Debbie’s influence has also done wonders for Liam’s health, after encouraging the rocker, who is known for his wild partying, to take up regular exercise.
“I run around seven miles every day, leaving about 5am,” he reveals. “Unless I’ve been out on the sauce (drinking), then I’m getting in at 5am. Normally, though, seven miles.”
