Harry Styles opts for Gucci class at first Met Gala

Harry Styles opted for a new romantic look as he made his debut at the Met Gala in New York on Monday evening (May 6, 2019).

The singer, who is co-hosting this year’s fashion event, arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art decked out in Gucci and wearing a single pearl teardrop earring. He walked the pink carpet with Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele.

This year’s theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion, had the stylists and the world’s top designers reaching deep into their wardrobes for outlandish outfits – Lady Gaga was one of the first divas to arrive and she wowed with a four-costume strip show, beginning with a huge shocking pink gown and ending in designer underwear, while Serena Williams had comfort in mind as she arrived at the Met Gala with her husband Alexis Ohanian wearing bright yellow sneakers.

Normally a no-no at the big event, the tennis ace clearly had an athletic pass as the Nike footwear complemented her voluminous neon yellow gown, which was embroidered with leaves.

Stand-outs also included TV producer Ryan Murphy, who appeared to conjure up the ghost of Liberace on the carpet by wearing an ornate orange cape over a sparking, pink and orange tuxedo, and his Glee star Darren Criss, who went for an “80s new wave rock ‘n’ roll look” complete with a glittering jester jacket and heavy make-up.

And Pose star Billy Porter made the most regal entrance, carried up the pink carpet by six topless hunks as he lounged on a black velvet chaise longue. He later stepped down to reveal his flamboyant black and gold outfit had been kitted with wings, giving him an otherworldly ancient Egyptian vibe.

Yellow was clearly in vogue, with Charli XCX also opting for a high-slit neon gown that showed off her legs as she also made her Met Gala debut, and reality TV star Kris Jenner wowed with a new hot blonde look as she arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with her boyfriend Corey Gamble wearing a black Tommy Hilfiger gown.

Taron Egerton also made his Met Gala debut in Ferragamo, while Rocketman co-star Richard Madden opted for a classic black Dior Men by Kim Jones Oblique tuxedo and matched the outfit with a black shirt.

Mindy Kaling, model Karlie Kloss, and Awkwafina were golden girls in Moschino, Dapper Dan and Altuzarra, respectively.

Like Karlie, fellow model Ashley Graham opted for Dapper Dan and a little Gucci as she rocked a leggy schoolgirl look in a form-fitting pink checked and green blazer, and Celine Dion looked like a shimmering Las Vegas showgirl in silver Oscar de la Renta, complete with an outrageous headpiece.
She confessed that she was initially confused about the theme of the 2019 Met Gala, stating, “I thought, like, ‘Camping? We’re going camping!'”

Meanwhile, Jared Leto turned heads – including his own – with the night’s oddest accessory – he showed up with a replica of his own head. The rocker and actor also sported a floor-length Gucci robe embellished with dozens of rhinestones, and it was a good night for the Brits as Emily Blunt and Sienna Miller shimmered in gold and silver, while Black Panther star Danai Gurira opted for a sexy top hat and tails catsuit.

Demi Moore was also a big talking point, returning to the Met Gala after an eight-year absence is a sleek black number with a plunging neckline, and Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife, designer Georgina Chapman was also back on the carpet for the first time since the movie mogul’s sex scandal exploded in 2017. And talking of firsts, it was also date night for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, who until Monday night had never arrived at the Met Gala together.
