Hello, Dolly! leads Drama Desk Awards nominations

Bette Midler’s Hello, Dolly! leads the 2017 Drama Desk Awards nominations with 10 nods.
The acclaimed revival of the 1964 musical will compete in categories including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, while Midler is up for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, and Jerry Zaks leads the nods for Outstanding Director of a Musical.
Anastasia follows with nine nominations, including Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Christy Altomare.
Midler and Altomare will compete against War Paint stars Christine Ebersole and Patti LuPone, Sutton Foster (Sweet Charity), and Laura Osnes (Bandstand).
Meanwhile, Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape is up for eight awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Play and Outstanding Actor in a Play for Bobby Cannavale, who will go up against Daniel Craig (Othello), Kevin Kline (Present Laughter), David Hyde Pierce (A Life), and John Douglas Thompson (Jitney).
Bandstand, The Band’s Visit, The Little Foxes, War Paint, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street all tie with seven nominations.
Hosted by Michael Urie, The Drama Desk Awards will be handed out on 4 June (17) in New York.
