Hugh Jackman still dresses up as Wolverine to scare his children despite vowing never to play the superhero again on screen.

The star said goodbye to the X-Men character earlier this year (17) after playing him in nine films, as he thinks it’s time for someone else to take on the role.

However he still dresses up as his comic book alter ego to frighten his children, Ava Eliot, 11, and Oscar Maximilian, 17.

“He’ll (Wolverine) come back, just not with me…except Saturday nights at my house. I dress up,” he tells U.K. TV presenter Lorraine Kelly. “When my kids are not doing their homework, I dress up and the claws come out, I just have to do that (Hugh raises an eyebrow) with the claws and it works.”

The actor’s last outing as Logan, the character dubbed Wolverine due to metal claws installed under his self-healing flesh, alongside Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, won universal acclaim for its depiction of aging superheroes.

Hugh, 48, is determined not to play the character again, but says it’s a brilliant part for whoever follows in his footsteps.

“Definitely someone else will play the role (of Wolverine), it’s a great role,” he explains. “You know, it’s like a Bond or it’s a like a Batman those kind of roles, other people will play him for sure.”

News of who that might be has been scarce, but stars tipped to be in the running include Tom Hardy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Charlie Hunnam, Karl Urban and Luke Evans.

No films featuring the X-Men and Wolverine as main characters are currently in development but a spin-off film, X-Force, and a movie centered on Gambit, a character in the X-Men comic books is also planned.

Hugh will next be seen as famed American entertainment impresario P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman, alongside Michelle Williams, which is released later this year (17).
