Jake Shears to make Broadway debut in Kinky Boots

Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears will make his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots next year (18).
The singer will appear as factory boss Charlie Price in the popular musical from 8 January to 1 April, taking over the role from original cast member Stark Sands.
Pentatonix member Kirsten Maldonado is also joining the production as Charlie’s love interest Lauren.
“I have been dreaming of doing Broadway, and my wish got answered tenfold,” Jake tells Entertainment Weekly. “I couldn’t be more excited about doing Kinky Boots on Broadway; it’s going to be a delicious challenge! Believe it or not, they’re going to be the first stilettos I’ll ever have worn. My feet are so big, I’ve never seen a pair that would actually fit me.”
Maldonado adds, “Being on Broadway has been my ultimate bucket list goal since I was eight years old. I’m so excited to join such an incredible cast to share this special story!”
The Tony Award-winning play follows Price as he forms an unlikely friendship with drag queen Lola and agrees to start making high-heeled boots to help save his family business from ruin.
Kinky Boots was adapted from the 2005 movie of the same name, which is based on a true story and starred Joel Edgerton as Charlie and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola. The stage show features songs by Cyndi Lauper and a book by actor/playwright Harvey Fierstein.
This isn’t the first theatre project for Shears – he wrote the music for Tales of the City, which was announced in 2015. He is also writing a play with Elton John, according to Billboard.
