Mike Myers exits Del Close biopic

Mike Myers has walked away from a biopic about his comedy mentor Del Close after financing issues caused filmmakers to put the project on hold.
The Austin Powers star signed on to play the improvisational comedian back in February (17), with Betty Thomas set to direct Del from a script by Nick Torokvei.
However, funding for the movie has since fallen through, and the delay in production has prompted Myers to depart as the leading man.
The whole film, which had been due to start shooting this year (17), has now been placed on ice as producers decide how to move forward.
One possible casting option for Thomas is John Malkovich, who has previously expressed an interest in tackling the part of Close, according to Deadline.com.
Close was known for mentoring a number of top funnymen at Chicago, Illinois’ famed Second City comedy venue, including Myers, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Tina Fey. He also worked on U.S. sketch show Saturday Night Live in the 1980s. He passed away in 1999.
