Jennifer Nettles tripped on stage as she was about to perform and broke her rib.
The singer, and frontwoman of country duo Sugarland, was injured up after she fell over a lighting fixture ahead of a performance at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday (04May17).
According to the New York Post, the Hey Heartbreak singer had been booked to perform for a roomful of advertisers by Time Inc. and the audience was awaiting her arrival onstage when the accident occurred.
After she fell the singer’s aides took her out via a back door, before calling an ambulance to take her to nearby Bellevue Hospital. Jennifer reportedly guessed at the time, “I broke my rib,” and the Drunk in Heels star’s self-diagnosis was correct as she later explained the reason for her non-appearance onstage to fans on social media.
“Hi loves. Thanks for all your kind wishes. Broken rib and banged up, but grateful. Maybe slowly moving for a bit. But I’ll rally,” she tweeted. “First time in all my 20+ yrs of performing to fall off a stage!!! First time for everything!!! Thanks for the love!”
The 42-year-old singer thanked the medical team at the hospital, and shared how she responded to a question about the severity of the pain when asked by the emergency responder.
“EMT: On a scale of 1-10 how bad does it hurt? Me: It’s not having a baby, but it’s close,” she tweeted.
