Jonathan Fire*Eater frontman Stewart Lupton dead at 43

Stewart Lupton, the frontman of New York rock band Jonathan Fire*eater, has died at the age of 43.
The vocalist passed away on Sunday (27May18), a family member told Pitchfork Media. An official cause of death is yet to be announced.
Lupton formed the group with Tom Frank, Paul Maroon, Matt Barrick and Walter Martin in 1993 and they released two highly acclaimed albums before their 1998 split.
Despite their break-up, the band were hugely influential on the exploding New York indie rock scene of the early 2000s and Maroon, Barrick, and Martin went on to have hits with their later band The Walkmen.
After the split, Lupton formed new band The Childballads, who released their debut album in January 2007 and toured with Cat Power and The Kills. He also played in another group, the Beatin’s, but mostly shunned the spotlight.
