Keri Russell’s son unfazed by her Star Wars gig

Keri Russell’s son was largely unfazed when she told him she was starring in Star Wars: Episode IX.

The Americans actress officially joined the cast of the sci-fi spectacle back in July 2018, with the movie seeing her reunite with her former collaborator and director J.J. Abrams, who she worked with on TV show Felicity and Mission: Impossible III.

Keri made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night (26Mar19), and when asked by host Stephen what her 11-year-old son River, who she shares with ex-husband Shane Deary, thought of the gig, she admitted that he gave her a little kudos.

“I am not kidding, I can’t impress that kid to save my life. I tell him all the time how cool I am, and he doesn’t believe me!” she said. “But this… when J.J. Abrams talked to me, I got off the phone and I was like, ‘River! You can’t tell any of your friends but I’m doing a really cool project – Star Wars.'”

Keri, who is also mother to seven-year-old daughter Willa and baby son Sam, two, went on to explain that River calmly replied, “That is cool,” before moving on from the chat.
“That’s it! That’s all I got!” the 43-year-old laughed.

Elsewhere in the interview, Stephen probed Keri for Star Wars spoilers, including the name of her character and the official title of the film.

“I don’t even know…” she tentatively responded when asked about the title, to which the presenter exclaimed, “You almost told me! And then you caught yourself before you said anything!”
However, Keri did later comment: “I do have the coolest costume, I will say that.”

Star Wars: Episode IX, also starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver, is set to hit cinemas in December.
