Kim Kardashian has criticized fast-fashion retailers for knocking off her vintage Thierry Mugler gown just hours after she wore it, and denied she had anything to do with the copycat dress.
The mother-of-three wore the eye-popping, cut-out gown to the Hollywood Beauty Awards on Sunday night (17Feb19). But less than 24 hours later, a version of the dress, called the Winning Beauty Cut Out Gown, was available to pre-order on Fashion Nova’s website, priced at $49.99.
On Tuesday night, an incensed Kim took to her social media to deny she had colluded with any fast-fashion retailers and blasted the fashion companies who “rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers”.
“I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent,” she began. “Only two days ago, I was privileged enough to wear a one-of-a-kind vintage Mugler dress and in less than 24 hours it was knocked off and thrown up on a site – but it’s not for sale,” she added. “You have to sign up for a waitlist because the dress hasn’t even been made to sell yet.
“My relationships with designers are very important to me. It’s taken me over a decade to build them and I have a huge amount of respect for the amount of work that they put into bringing their ideas to life,” the reality star continued. “I’m not leaking my looks to anyone, and I don’t support what these companies are doing.”
It’s the second time this month that Kim has been accused of collaborating with fast fashion brands. Instagram account Diet Prada accused the reality TV star of working with U.K.-based label Missguided after the brand posted a copy of a gold dress Kim wore, designed by her husband Kanye West, less than three hours after she’d debuted it on Instagram
“Hey Kim, we’re onto your little game… We think we smell a rat. Dieters, is this a thinly veiled collab (collaboration), or does Missguided have a secret atelier of magical elves making stretchy dresses round the clock and shooting them on Kim K doppelgangers? Lol,” they wrote.
