Kristin Chenoweth to Tackle Stage Adaptation of ‘Death Becomes Her’

Actress/singer Kristin Chenoweth is stepping into Meryl Streep’s shoes for a stage musical adaptation of the movie veteran’s 1992 movie Death Becomes Her.

Universal Theatrical Group officials are currently developing the project, with Chenoweth starring as lead character Madeline Ashton, a woman who seizes on the opportunity to become immortal and outdo her rival Helen Sharp, played onscreen by Goldie Hawn.

“These are the moments that make life worth living!” she exclaimed on Twitter. “I’m so excited to announce Death Becomes Her! It’s so cool to be included every step of the way.”

The Pushing Daisies and Glee star is no stranger to the stage – she won a Tony Award in 1999 for the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, while she was also nominated in 2004 for hit production Wicked, and again in 2015 for a revival of On the Twentieth Century.

The original Death Becomes Her, directed by Robert Zemeckis, also featured Bruce Willis and Isabella Rossellini and was a big hit at the box office, grossing $149 million worldwide on a $55 million budget.

The fantasy-comedy also won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
