Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic casts Steven Tyler and Joe Perry roles

Newcomers Neill Byrnes and Anthony Rocco Bovo have been cast as Steven Tyler and Joe Perry in the upcoming Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic.
Byrnes, the lead singer of Aerosmith tribute band Draw the Line, will play Tyler, while Bovo will portray Perry in Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash.
The film, originally titled Free Bird, began shooting in Los Angeles on Monday (24Apr17). It centres on the 1977 plane crash which cost lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, and three others their lives.
The Aerosmith rockers were scheduled to fly on the same plane a week prior, but deemed it unsafe and chose not to charter it.
Drummer Artimus Pyle, who will be portrayed by Ian Shultis, has written the script alongside director Jared Cohn. He will also serve as a producer on the project.
A Young Man’s Future’s Taylor Clift will star as Van Zant, while Citizens United actor Samuel Kay Forrest will play Steve Gaines. The American West’s Rich Dally III will portray Allen Collins. Keith Sutliff, Hudson Long and Nick Cairo Chandler have also recently joined the cast.
Pyle is also writing a memoir about his time with the Southern rock supergroup.
