Mad Max: Fury Road dominates Australian Oscars

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy’s action movie Mad Max: Fury Road took the early prizes at the Australian Oscars, scoring six wins in categories including visual effects and cinematography.

The Mad Max reboot also won trophies for editing, sound, score and production design, and other winners included Kate Winslet’s drama The Dressmaker, which took the award for Best Costume Design.
Paper Planes won Best Original Screenplay and Last Cab To Darwin took Best Adapted Screenplay.
Mad Max: Fury Road will compete for the rest of its nominations at the main AACTA ceremony in Sydney next week (beg07Dec15). It will vie for awards including Best Film, Best Direction for George Miller and Best Actress for Charlize Theron.
“Each year the AACTA Awards remind us of the breadth of screen practitioner talent Australia produces, and (this event) was no exception,” explains AACTA chief executive Damian Trewhella. “As well as confirming leaders across screen crafts, with many of (the) winners internationally recognised industry icons… We also recognised the talent of many first-time winners, whose careers will now enter an exciting new chapter having received the nation’s top screen accolade in front of our industry’s best.
“We congratulate all winners announced… and look forward with great anticipation to revealing the remaining winners at the fifth AACTA Awards Ceremony…”
