Maria Menounos shares journey to recovery after brain surgery

Maria Menounos has shared footage of herself being fed by a friend after her life-saving brain surgery earlier this year (17).
The TV personality posted the video, filmed 24 hours after her June operation, on Friday (08Dec17), and told her followers that she was thankful for their unwavering support during her recovery.
“I still can’t believe that you can eat and speak normally so soon after,” she captioned the clip on Instagram. “It was hard to keep my eyes open bc (because) I was seeing double at this point.”
She added: “On my 6 month anniversary (of surgery), I wanted to share this so if you are about to go through this you can see with your own eyes what it can be like. Everyone is different… but if I can ease your fears a bit I would like to.”
Menounos underwent a seven-hour surgery in June (17) to remove a golf ball-sized meningioma brain tumour that was affecting her facial nerves.
The 39-year-old former E! host also thanked friends who rallied round her as she recovered in hospital.
“Also want to stress the importance of friends!” she wrote. “@alyssawallerce my best friend of 26 years was by my side for months and she fed me this first meal (broth)… it’s a journey and you need help so Don’t be afraid to ask for it. Forever grateful to Alyssa and all my amazing friends who helped me through this!”
Earlier this year, she told People she was diagnosed with the brain tumour in February (17) as she was caring for her mother, who was suffering from stage 4 brain cancer.
“I didn’t cry. I actually laughed,” she said of receiving her diagnosis. “It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mom has a brain tumour – and now I have one too?”
