Mathew Knowles: ‘Destiny’s Child musical will involve past and present members’

Beyonce and all of her Destiny’S Child bandmates, past and present, have been invited to help develop a musical based on the groundbreaking girl group, according to the superstar’s father.
Earlier this week (begs22Apr19), Mathew Knowles announced he has been working on a new stage show, called Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical, which he plans to debut in the band’s native Houston, Texas sometime next year (20).
Mathew, who served as the group’s manager from its inception in 1990 until the trio embarked on solo careers in 2006, has now assured fans his daughter and her pals Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams have been kept informed about the project, and have been offered the opportunity to get involved behind the scenes.
He also suggests singers LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, who he infamously fired from the original line-up in 2000, have been contacted, too.
“We have directly and indirectly spoken – not only Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle or their representatives – but also some of the former members of the group,” Beyonce’s dad tells the New York Post’s Page Six.
“We’ve given them the opportunity to be as much involved as they’d like, or (have) as little involvement as they’d like.”
The production is set to feature songs from the Destiny’s Child catalogue, and although the musical is still in the early stages of development, Knowles is convinced the ladies will give the show their blessing, because it’s more focused on his viewpoint as their manager, and how he balanced that job with his family responsibilities.
“Everybody understands this is my perspective, not their perspective,” he explains. “The girls were very young when they got into this business, so a lot of this perspective, they didn’t really understand.”
Once the script is completed, Mathew plans to make it available to all of the Destiny’s Child stars, so they can review it.
“I wouldn’t want to put anything out that didn’t have everyone’s support,” he adds.
Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical will be directed by Je’Caryous Johnson. If successful, Mathew hopes to take the show to Broadway and London’s West End prior to a world tour.
