Singer Melanie Martinez has denied claims she sexually assaulted her female best friend.
Timothy Heller, the singer’s former friend and fellow musician, published allegations against Martinez on Twitter on Monday night (04Dec17) recounting a two-night sleepover they had an unspecified number of years ago.
“She began asking me while in bed if I would have sex with her. While being incredibly uncomfortable by this offer, I attempted to laugh it off. I had a boyfriend at this time, and she knew that… I said no and I thought we could move on,” she wrote about the first night.
According to Heller, Martinez tried again on the next night, with the 22-year-old allegedly pushing the subject relentlessly even though Heller tried to make excuses.
“She began bartering with me. All I wanted to do was go to sleep. She began talking about the appearance of my boobs and begged to JUST touch them,” Heller wrote. “We didn’t have to do anything else. I was so exhausted and confused and high and belittled that I just allowed it to happen.
This led to her touching the rest of me. I never said yes. I said no, repeatedly… Just so there is no confusion, I was molested by my best friend.”
Heller continued by claiming Martinez performed oral sex on her and penetrated her with a sex toy without her consent.
She told her followers in the caption that she was initially going to keep her abuser anonymous but said she thought it was important people know “this is about Melanie Martinez“.
The singer, who rose to fame on the 2012 edition of The Voice, issued a statement on Twitter saying she was “horrified and saddened” by the allegations.
“What she and I shared was a close friendship for a period of time,” Martinez wrote. “We both had pain in dealing with our individual demons… but I truly felt we were trying to lift each other up. She never said no to what we chose to do together. And although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always.”
