Michael B. Jordan: ‘Selena Gomez will beat lupus’

Actor Michael B. Jordan is confident his friend Selena Gomez will prevail in her battle with lupus, insisting she is a strong woman.
The 24-year-old announced she was taking an indefinite break from her world tour in August (16) in order to focus on getting well, as she continues to fight lupus.
Selena was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2014 and subsequently checked into a rehab facility to receive treatments and undergo chemotherapy.
Gomez didn’t reveal her health crisis until last October (15) when she released her album Revival, and following a flare up this summer she put her professional commitments on hold to refocus on her health and seek out treatment for anxiety, panic attacks and depression.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Gomez told People in a statement. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”
But she’s getting plenty of support from friends and fans with Creed star Jordan, whose mum also suffers from lupus, urging Selena to stay positive.
“Everybody comes to terms with it in their own time and she’s finally taking the time to deal with it and address it,” he tells Entertainment Tonight. “My advice would be, ‘Stay optimistic, don’t succumb to how you feel in the moment – because it will pass and get better – and surround yourself with positive people.”
Michael has been in contact with Selena during her health battle and has vowed to be there for her whenever she needs a little positivity.
“She’s a really good friend and we’ve talked and had conversations,” he says. “She’s a really, really strong woman, so I can’t imagine her not conquering it just like she has everything else.”
