Michelle Pfeiffer flying into action in Ant-Man and The Wasp

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer is set to star as Michael Douglas’ missing wife in the forthcoming Ant-Man movie sequel.
The Scarface star was unveiled as part of the new cast at San Diego Comic-Con in California this weekend (22-23Jul17), when Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced she will take on the role of Janet van Dyne, the wife of Douglas’ Hank Pym, who served as the very first Ant-Man.
In the comic books the film franchise is based on, van Dyne was the original Wasp superhero who was presumed dead after shrinking down to a subatomic state.
Douglas’ character mourned the death of his wife, the mother of his daughter Hope, played by Evangeline Lilly, in the hit 2015 movie. Both stars will return for the follow-up, in which Paul Rudd will reprise his role as the latest incarnation of Ant-Man.
It won’t be Pfeiffer’s first foray into the world of comic book adaptations – she portrayed Catwoman in director Tim Burton’s 1992 film Batman Returns, which starred Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader.
Meanwhile, The Matrix star Laurence Fishburne and Trainwreck actor Randall Park have also been added to the line-up for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will be directed by Peyton Reed for a July, 2018 release.
Fishburne has been added as Bill Foster, a scientist and former colleague of Pym’s, who, in the comics, later becomes the superhero Black Goliath, before transforming into Giant-Man.
The casting news emerges days after The Hateful Eight star Walton Goggins was reported to have signed on to the movie.
Filming will begin in Atlanta, Georgia this week (begs24Jul17).
