Mustang tops France’s Lumiere Awards

Oscar-nominated movie Mustang dominated France’s Lumiere Awards at a ceremony in Paris on Monday night (08Feb16).
The coming-of-age drama earned four trophies, including the coveted Best Picture prize, as well as Best Cinematography, and the Heike Hurst Prize for Best First Feature Film for director Deniz Gamze Erguven.
The five young leading ladies of the film, Gunes Nezihe Sensoy, Doga Zeynep Doguslu, Elit Iscan, Tugba Sunguroglu, and Ilayda Akdogan, shared the Female Revelation accolade, which is awarded to new talent.
Mustang will vie for the Best Foreign Language Film award at the Oscars later this month (Feb16), when it goes up against Embrace of the Serpent, Son of Saul, Theeb, and A War.
My Golden Days filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin took home the Best Director award in Paris, while the movie’s composer Gregoire Hetzel earned the Best Music prize. The ceremony’s acting trophies went to Vincent Lindon (Best Actor for The Measure of a Man and Diary of a Chambermaid), Catherine Frot (Best Actress for Marguerite), and Rod Paradot (Male Revelation for Standing Tall).
