Neil Diamond to be honoured with top Songwriters Hall of Fame prize

Neil Diamond has been named the recipient of a prestigious Johnny Mercer Award at the 49th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony and gala.
The 77-year-old music icon, who recently announced he was retiring as a touring artist after learning he was battling Parkinson’s disease, will be feted at the event in New York on 14 June (18).
The Sweet Caroline singer was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, but his upcoming accolade is the organisation’s highest honour, reserved only for songwriters who have previously been inducted.
Former recipients include Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Billy Joel, and Paul Simon.
