Neil Young’s trains and cars fetch over $700,000 at auction

Rock legend Neil Young’s prized train collection has fetched $300,000 (£224,100) at auction.
The Rockin’ in the Free World hitmaker put more than 230 Lionel trains up for auction at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles and according to Reuters, they have sold for $300,000.
In addition to the trains, the 72-year-old also auctioned off some of his classic cars, including a 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark convertible 50th anniversary special edition, which sold for $400,000 (£300,000), and musical equipment like guitars, amplifiers and microphones.
Young started collecting trains over 20 years ago as a way to bond with his son Ben, who has cerebral palsy.
“Collecting all of these items has been my great joy. They have provided a source of inspiration, fun and creativity throughout my life,” a previous statement from the rocker read. “Now it is time to share them with others in the world whom I hope will enjoy and love them as much as I have.”
Some of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Bridge School in California, which was founded by Young’s ex-wife Pegi Young in 1986 and serves children with severe speech and physical impairments.
