Norman Mailer’s ex-wife dies at 90

Author Norman Mailer’s ex-wife, Adele Morales, has died at the age of 90.
The painter/memoirist passed away of pneumonia on Sunday (22Nov15).
Morales married Mailer in 1954. The relationship was stormy and in 1960, Mailer stabbed and nearly killed Morales after a party in New York. He was subsequently involuntarily committed to Bellevue Hospital for over two weeks and he later pleaded guilty to third-degree assault. He received a suspended sentence and the couple divorced in 1962.
Following the marriage, Morales appeared in several Off Broadway productions, including Mailer’s adaptation of his novel The Deer Park in 1967. She also had a small role in his 1970 film Maidstone, according to the New York Times.
In 1997, she published a memoir about the couple’s marriage, titled The Last Party, and she also enjoyed a career as an artist.
Mailer died in 2007.
