Normani Kordei has reassured fans that she’s not leaving Fifth Harmony after signing a solo management deal.
The 21-year-old singer recently signed a contract with S10 Entertainment & Media, and fans assumed that meant Normani was leaving her girl group to strike out on her own, but she has insisted in a new interview that isn’t the case.
“It’s funny because so many people were like, ‘5H is over! Oh my gosh! She’s leaving the group,'” she said at ET Online. “And I’m just sitting in my bed laughing because so many things can be misconstrued and misread and just taken out of context.
“I’m like, no, I’m not leaving my group. I would never. We’re on such a high right now. We’re at our peak. It would be dumb at this point, and it’s not what I want to do with my heart and soul. That wasn’t even a thought.”
She explained that she got her own manager to help guide her on projects outside of the group, such as solo music or her appearance on Dancing with the Stars.
All the remaining members of Fifth Harmony are working on solo material – Lauren Jauregui has featured on songs by Halsey, Ty Dolla $ign, and Marion Hill, Dinah Jane Hansen recently collaborated with RedOne, Daddy Yankee and French Montana on Boom Boom, and Ally Brooke Hernandez has her own music in the works.
“It’s just cool that we can all support each other, not because we’re forced to or we have to, but because we genuinely love each other and we’re happy,” Normani said of their separate projects. “We know that we came into the group as individuals, so we allow each other that individual freedom, but still remembering that the group is (important).”
Their former bandmate Camila Cabello left the group in December, 2016 to pursue a solo career.
