Patrick Dempsey’s mother loses cancer battle

Grey’S Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey is mourning the death of his mother after she lost her battle with ovarian cancer on Monday (24Mar14). Amanda Dempsey, 79, battled the disease many times since her initial diagnosis in 1997.
The sad news was made public on Tuesday (25Mar14) by officials at The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, the free medical facility the actor and his family opened with the help of bosses at Central Maine Medical Center in their native Lewiston, Maine in 2008.
In a statement posted on the centre’s website, Peter Chalke, President and CEO of Central Maine Healthcare, says, “The entire Central Maine Medical family mourns the passing of Amanda Dempsey.
“Amanda Dempsey was both a great lady and a determined fighter who displayed tremendous courage, class and grace during her long battle with cancer… We will miss Amanda deeply, but we were all blessed by knowing her and being inspired by her life story.”
The actor’s mother had been receiving treatment at Central Maine Medical Center.
Dempsey has yet to comment on the tragic loss.
