Post Malone criticises hip-hop for lacking realness

Rapper Post Malone has criticised hip-hop for its lack of “people talking real s**t.”
The New York-born white rapper, who is currently sitting atop the U.S. pop charts for his sixth straight week in a row with his 21 Savage collaboration Rockstar, has worked with a number of prominent rappers such as 50 Cent, Young Thug, and Kanye West, among others.
However, in a video interview with Polish news outlet Newonce, Malone, real name Austin Richard Post, after joking that he’s “a white guy so I have a lot of emotions,” he advised people tune into Bob Dylan rather than hip-hop if they’re looking for emotive or intellectually stimulating lyrics.
“If you’re looking for lyrics, if you’re looking to cry, if you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop,” Malone suggested during the interview. “There’s great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they really spit that real s**t, but right now, there’s not a lot of people talking about real s**t.”
Malone, who has previously insisted he is not a rapper, achieved platinum sales for his debut album Stoney, but has been accused of cultural appropriation for his use of Jamaican slang like “shottas” on Rockstar and criticised for his failure to use his platform to address issues of racial injustice.
In 2015, he publicly apologised during an interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club after a video surfaced of him using the N-word.
However, he did credit hip-hop music for helping him to “have a good time and stay in a positive mood,” during the interview, in which he also discussed his love of Elvis Presley.
