Pregnant Jessica Simpson asks fans for swollen feet remedies

Jessica Simpson has asked her social media fans for advice on how to relieve her very swollen feet.
The singer and fashion mogul announced in September (18) that she was expecting her third child, a girl, with her football star husband Eric Johnson.

However, Jessica took to Instagram on Thursday (10Jan19) to share that she was struggling to walk during her pregnancy and uploaded a snap of her seriously swollen left foot and ankle.
“Any remedies?! Help!!!!” the 38-year-old wrote alongside the photo.

A number of her four million followers were quick to show support and give recommendations, with one user writing, “Yes!! Get off your feet. Seriously!!!!!! And don’t eat a lot of salty stuff!!!”

Another commented, “Oh no!! Honey! Epsom salt soak; elevate your feet higher than your heart for ten minutes; remove salt from your diet – as much as you can,” while a third added: “Oh sweetie, I went through the same thing with my first pregnancy. Just keep them up and lay down as much as possible. Poor thing.”

It seems Jessica, who is also mother to daughter Maxwell, six, and five-year-old son Ace, is having a rough week, as a few days ago she also posted a selfie showing her lying in bed with the caption, “Sick Day”.

According to specialists at the American Pregnancy Association, such swelling is a normal part of pregnancy and is caused by the extra blood and fluids produced in the body that are required to meet the needs of the developing baby.

To manage the condition, also called edema, experts suggest reducing intake of foods that are high in potassium, such as bananas, avoiding caffeine, trying not to stand for long periods, and minimising time outdoors when it is hot.

They also recommend resting with feet elevated, avoiding high heels, wearing supportive tights, resting in a pool, drinking water and applying cold compresses to affected areas.
