Prince Harry: ‘Mother’s death has left a gaping hole’

Prince Harry still has a “gaping hole” in his life following the death of his mother Princess Diana.
The British royal lost his mum when he was just 12 years old after she died in a car crash in Paris, France. Now 30, Harry has carried on his mother’s legacy by getting heavily involved in charity work and, while opening the Mamohato Children’s Centre in Lesotho, Africa, he spoke of how much he can sympathise with the orphans who will use the facility.
“I knew there would always be a gaping hole that could never be filled,” he said according to Us Weekly. “The children at the centre were far younger than me, and of course, their situation was a great deal more challenging than my own. Nonetheless, we shared a similar feeling of loss, having a loved one – in my case a parent – snatched away so suddenly.”
Money from the royal’s charity, Sentebale, helped build the facility and the dining room has been named after Princess Diana. The centre will support children who have lost parents to AIDS, which was a cause very close to the late Princess’ life.
Both Harry and his older brother William have continued the good work carried out by Diana by getting involved with a range of different charities. Back in October (15), Harry shared how he was inspired by his mother’s efforts when she was alive.
“It’s equally important, if not more so, to do the stuff behind the scenes,” he said of his royal duties. “It’s something that our mother did a lot. And that’s the time you really get to learn. You get the experiences and you actually get the honest truth out of people.”
