Rhymefest robbed at gunpoint for $3

Rapper Rhymefest was targeted by an armed robber in his native Chicago, Illinois on Saturday (27Aug16).
Kanye West’s former collaborator and civil rights activist was sitting in his parked car when a young male hopped in, whipped out his gun, and demanded his wallet, which the MC promptly handed over.
Rhymefest, real name Che Smith, managed to keep a hold of his cell phone and later took to Twitter to address the youngster, stating: “You don’t know how you just damaged your community.”
He added, “It’s 7:30 a.m. You just put a gun in my face for $3 in my wallet. I defend you against police brutality, I work on your behalf, you robbed me.”
The rapper then showed his forgiveness to the unidentified robber, urging him to reach out to discuss the matter at length to see how Smith could help: “When you look in my Wallet & see the name Che Smith on the ID. DM (direct message) me, yes contact me apologize and talk to me like a brother.”
Rhymefest then revealed he had tried to report the incident at his local police station, but was initially turned away by cops before he could detail the nature of the crime.
“You wonder why we don’t report crimes?,” he wrote beside video footage of his rude encounter. “The police treated me disgustingly.”
The Chicago Police Department communications director Anthony Guglielmi has since issued an apology to Rhymefest for the officers’ behaviour, but the star wants to take the opportunity further and use his experience to help authorities establish how to “better police” local communities, reports Pitchfork.com.
