Rick Springfield’s devilish new TV role

Rick Springfield is joining the cast of Supernatural.
The pop legend will be playing the role of Lucifer in the upcoming twelfth season of the hit U.S. TV show, it was announced at Comic-Con on Sunday (24Jul16).
The last season of the show saw the devil use the body of angel Castiel as his vessel, but the first few episodes of the next season will see him try out the body of former rock star Vince Vicente.
“The first vessel that Lucifer feels comfortable with is a rock star who’s a little bit on the down side who’s trying to come back,” executive producer Robert Singer explained at Comic-Con.
Fellow producer Andrew Dabb added that they were looking for a real-life singer for the role, but one “who could act”.
“If you’ve seen Ricki and The Flash or True Detective recently, he’s really great,” he added to the audience.
As Dabb explained, the part is the latest in a string of acting jobs for Rick, who made the move from music to acting with roles in shows such as High Tide and General Hospital.
He is also still enjoying success with his music career, and released his latest album Rocket Science in February (16).
Speaking in a recent interview about what he loves about both music and acting, Rick told The A.V. Club: “It all comes to one thing, the one centre, the different art things, and it’s the same high.
“When I feel like I’ve nailed a scene, it’s the same feeling I have when I feel like I’ve nailed a song. When you perform and you do a show and everything is clicking and the audience is on, they both use the same thing. They both charge me in the same way.”
Supernatural will premiere season 12 in the U.S. this October (16).
