Rihanna prioritises confidence over being skinny like a ‘Victoria’s Secret model’

Rihanna has no desire to be a “skinny Victoria’s Secret model”.
On Tuesday (10Sep19) the singer held the runway show for her highly anticipated Savage x Fenty lingerie line at New York’s Barclays Center in Brooklyn, featuring a diverse and inclusive cast of model/performers and guest appearances from Gigi Hadid and Normani.
And while Rihanna’s fashion show has drawn comparisons to Victoria’s Secret annual show, the singer told Business of Fashion (BoF) she doesn’t care about looking like one of the lingerie brand’s models, but would rather have the confidence of Parris Goebel, who choreographed the model’s dance routines.
“I love how she makes everything sexy despite society’s ideal of what sexy looks,” Rihanna told BoF in a post-show interview of the choreographer, best known for her work on Justin Bieber’s Sorry video. “I don’t care about any skinny Victoria’s Secret model when I look at Parris.
“I want to be that woman on the inside. I want to feel that confident I want to feel that bombastic… That is the Savage brand.”
Rihanna’s lingerie extravaganza will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from September 20, helping the Love on the Brain singer to achieve her aim of reaching as many women as possible with her inclusive brand.
“There are a lot of women out there who are feeling in the dark, invisible. ‘I can’t try that on because I’m not made like that,’” she said. “This is where you feel safe, right here at Savage.”
The Savage x Fenty show also featured musical performances by DJ Khaled, Migos, Halsey, Big Sean, A$AP Ferg and Fat Joe.
