Robert Redford considers the end of Sundance

Robert Redford is seriously considering shutting down his Sundance Film Festival, because the annual Utah bash has become too big.
The 79-year-old movie legend, who launched the independent film festival in 1978, fears the event has grown to near-uncontrollable levels – and he’s beginning to think he should call time on Sundance.
“I don’t know if there will be a festival (in the future),” he tells Closer magazine. “It’s gotten so big, how long can it continue to expand without convulsing?”
During this year’s festival, Robert said he was thinking about splitting Sundance into several events in a bid to cut back on the traffic and overcrowding complaints surrounding his annual Park City event.
“I’m starting to hear some negative comments about how crowded it is and how difficult it is to get from venue to venue when there’s traffic and people in the streets and so forth,” he said. “We’re going to have to look at that.
“As it grew, so did the crowds, so did the development in Park City. At some point, if both those things continue to grow, they’re going to begin to choke each other…
“Do we risk (losing) the heart and soul of what we were when we started against the odds…? Do we have to now rethink things?”
The 2016 Sundance Film Festival took place last month (Jan16).
