Rocker and tequila kingpin Sammy Hagar had to steer Adam Levine away from the whisky to land him as a new alcohol partner.
The two musicians recently launched liquor Santo Mezquila after forming a friendship in Mexico, where they both have holiday retreats.
“He (Levine) moved to Cabo and we ran into each other, and hit it off like crazy,” Hagar tells Billboard. “(He said), ‘I want to be like you when I grow up’.”
But the former Van Halen star Hagar reveals his new pal was close to signing a major deal with an unnamed whisky company – and he had to persuade him tequila, Adam’s favourite tipple, was a better investment.
“I told him, ‘Look, we’re not going to endorse it. You’re going to get skin in the game like I do’,” the veteran rocker recalls. “He jumped in.”
Hagar has pedigree in the beverage market – he’s the brains behind Cabo Wabo Tequila and Beach Bar Rum.
