Sarah Jessica Parker scared to sing in new film

Sarah Jessica Parker was “terrified” to sing in her new film Blue Night.
The Sex and the City star plays a jazz-pop singer whose world is turned upside down when she receives a devastating medical diagnosis, and although Parker has a background in musical theatre, she was apprehensive about bursting into song on camera because she wanted to make sure she conveyed the emotion of the tune correctly.
“(It’s) theoretically terrifying,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a song that has a story, and sometimes that’s easier to focus on than singing well. To be a good interpreter, sometimes that makes what’s scary easier.”
However, she insists making the movie was “a joy”.
“As hard as the role was, it was happy,” she adds. “It wasn’t easy, but it shouldn’t be easy. It was happy.”
The film is inspired by 1962 movie Cleo From 5 to 7, about a singer awaiting her biopsy results, and also stars Renee Zellweger, Taylor Kinney, and rapper Common.
